Zyderm Zyplast

Zyderm® & Zyplast® are injectable collagen dermal fillers made of a highly purified bovine collagen suspended in a saline solution.  Zyderm® & Zyplast® are used in Collagen Replacement Therapy treatments, aimed to replace the natural collagen that is lost from the skin due to aging. Because bovine collagen is a foreign protein for humans, a skin patch test is required before treatment to ensure that the patient does not have an allergic reaction to the ingredients in the filler.

Zyderm® and Zyplast® come in different formulas, each used to treat different severities of skin defects:

Zyderm® I is comprised of 25% bovine collagen, and 0.3% lidocaine. It is used to treat superficial skin defects, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and shallow scars. This dermal filler formula lasts between 6 weeks to 3 months.

Zyderm® II is comprised of 50% bovine collagen, and 0.3% lidocaine and is generally used on more moderate scarring and wrinkles. This dermal filler formula lasts between 4 to 5 months.

Zyplast® has a denser composition, and is used for deep lines and wrinkles, lip enhancement and acne scars. Zyplast® generally lasts 9 months to 1 year.

Results can be seen immediately after injection. Follow-up maintenance treatments are required since the collagen injections eventually biodegrade. Side effects are generally mild and can include swelling, redness and bruising. These usually resolve after 1 or 2 days and within 1 week after injection in the lips.
